Another great night with 38 people in attendance! 

The winners were:

Major: 1st = Hanif Zaman, Mark McKay, Heath Grimman and David Henderson 5/7 £10

Junior prize awarded to next junior who has not won a major prize: 1st = Felix Glover, David Llewellyn and Guatham Sathiskumar 3/7 £3

Round 1

A fantastic 1st round of Gosforth Chess Club Summer Blitz Series which had 44 people in attendance who made the night an exceptional event! The winners were:

Open: 1st Gustavo Leon 7/7 £30 2nd Andy Burnett 6/7 £20

Major: 1st = Murray Pollock, Mark Davey, Ed Dodds and Nagendra KS 5/6 £12.50 each

Minor: 1st = Ethan Ross and Heath Grimman 4/6 £25 each

Junior prize: 1st Gautham Sathishkumar 3.5/7 £11

Finally a massive thank you for your donations towards the Empire Clubs Defibrillator fund, we raised £60 which is fantastic!

Round 2:

Another amazing turnout with 42 people in attendance who made the night another fantastic event! The winners were:

2026 Blitz Series

We are pleased to announce the dates of our 2026 Blitz Series.

The dates are:

  • May 18th
  • June 15th
  • July 20th
  • August 24th
  • September 14th

Enteries will open in May and will be acepted on the night before 7pm or via email at enquires@gosforthchessclub.co.uk.

As in previous years entry fee will be £5 and we will be awarding prizes on the night and an overall summer winner for the following sections:

  • Open
  • Major
  • Minor
  • Junior

2024 3rd Annual Gosforth Summer Blitz Festival

Firstly, can I say a big thank you from the Gosforth Chess Club Committee to everyone who attended these events. We have held 5 events over the summer to help keep over the board chess going and it has once again been a great success.

Overall, 77 different competitors came to the events with a high of 49 people and an average attendance of 38, it has been amazing.

So big Congratulations to the following people:

Open

Joint 1st FM Charlie Storey and Gustavo Leon Cazares (74 points) £28.50 each

Gustavo also wins the Gosforth Rapid play trophy for the highest placed Gosforth player.

Special mention to Charlie, he is off to pastures new in Dubai and has donated his winnings to our junior club…. Thank you 🙂
