Club History

It all started it 1995…

Our Home

We currently run a club night on Monday’s from 7 pm to 11 pm, we are located on the first floor of Gosforth Empire Club 32-34 Salters Rd, Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 1DX, UK.

Although our club starts at 7 pm all matches will start at 7:15 – please keep noise to a minimum if you are arriving after this time.

Directions

A couple of minutes walk from Gosforth high street, which is accessible by major bus routes from Newcastle City Centre.

We are approximately 8 minutes walk from Regent Centre which is the closest Metro station.

By car we are 5 minutes from the A1.

This is Mick, our Club Chairman.

This club, the people in it and the things wedo, they’re to die for. Come and join up, you’ll nevr be disappointed.

Ian is our Club Club Captain.

‘I love this game because there is always something new to learn and to try to understand. I have been playing over 50 years and am hoping that one day I will stop feeling like a beginner.’

Mark is the Club Treasurer.

I joined Gosforth to re-awaken my love of the game and look forward to playing most Monday nights.’

I decided to take up Chess in 2023 to feed my competitive streak during the winter months.  I was apprehensive on my first visit to the club but within a month I had played my first competitive game and have not looked back since. I’m now always looking forward to Monday evenings!

Alex is the Joint Development Officer.

I hadn’t played chess since I was a kid but after playing a bit more online I decided to check out Gosforth Chess Club and have now regained my obsession with the game! We have a great club with lots of opportunities for both competitive chess and casual/social games. I’m pleased to have joined the committee to help run our development programme for members.

Club Championship 2024/25

Congratulations to the winners !! 2024 3rd Annual Gosforth Summer Blitz Festival

Firstly, can I say a big thank you from the Gosforth Chess Club Committee to everyone who attended these events. We have held 5 events over the summer to help keep over the board chess going and it has once again been a great success.
